Captions & language on Zoom
Summit sessions run on Zoom. Captions and spoken-language options are chosen inside Zoom itself, separately from this website. Changing the site language (top of the page) changes the site, not a live session. Here's how to get the language and captions you need.
Plenary sessions: choose your language
MainStage plenaries have live human interpreters. Once you're in the Zoom session, open the interpretation control (the globe or “Interpretation” icon) and select your language channel. You choose the channel yourself, and can switch it at any time.
Can't see the interpretation control?
The in-page desktop player may not show every Zoom control. If interpretation isn't available there, use the “Join the Zoom webinar” link below the video, or open the session in the Zoom app, where the full language controls are available.
Parallel sessions: turn on captions
Parallel sessions use Zoom's automatic (AI-generated) captions rather than human interpreters. Turn them on with Zoom's “Show Captions” (CC) button. Because they're automated, they may not always be perfectly accurate.
Choose your caption language
Click the arrow next to “Show Captions” (CC), check that “My Speaking Language” is correct, then under “Translate to” pick the language you want and make sure “Show Captions” is enabled.
On a phone or tablet: use the Zoom app
The in-page player is built for desktop browsers. On mobile, sessions open in the Zoom app instead. Install Zoom before the summit so captions, interpretation, and breakout rooms all work on your device.
When can I join?
Join buttons go live at 06:00 CEST on 16 September, several hours before the first session, so you have time to sort out any sign-in trouble. Set your caption and language preferences once you're inside the Zoom session.
